hi everyone

It all started the night of november twenty-nineth at Sydney Airport. As i hopped on that plane i knew that this was going to be a journey of a lifetime.

I walked down the aisle and found my seat, 30 rows back from every other person going on exchange. Just my luck. With just three minutes until take off, the only absent seat on the plane was the one next to me. My fingers were crossed that they would remain vacant for the whole flight but in contrary to my wants, the seat was later occupied by a lady who based off her outfit was definitely on her way to the Middle East.

A mere six hours into the first fourteen hour leg of flying and nothing interested had happened. To me this came as a shock, seeing that the last time i flew the man sitting in front of me’s Jewish Skullcap fell on my lap while sleeping. However, i did manage to wake up with the middle eastern woman’s head resting on my left shoulder, and a puddle of moisture on my left thigh. Those who know me can only imagine my reaction to this.

9 hours into the flight and interest hits as i am escorted by four flight attendants to the front of the plane and informed that ‘it is urgent’. I couldn’t imagine what it possibly could be but to my disbelief a fellow friend on exchange had experienced a seizure and they informed that ‘she would no longer be able to go on her exchange to Turkey tomorrow but would have to wait at Abu Dhabi Hospital for a while’. To which i explained to them that she was actually going to France and the reason she informed them off this was most likely one of the side effects. I was then permanently moved to the front of the plane where i spent the rest of the flight, oxygen tank in hand, watching ‘The Heat’.

When arriving at Abu Dhabi, i met another girl going on exchange called Hannah. Where we spent 4 hours watching the Middle Eastern sunrise, eating, shopping and letting our eyes follow the many Jesus-look-alikes situated at the airport. Here are a few pics:

Following this flight was a 9 hour flight to Paris where you can safely say based off the photos below that nothing interesting happened at all. But hey, we made Paris!

Following this, Hannah and i took a 4 hour train with a girl who didn’t speak English to Rennes. We met a few french people, some pickpockets here and there and were ‘fortunate enough’ to be accompanied by an accordian player… the whole way there… for four hours. When stepping off the train after 39 hours of travel, i can safely say i was happy to have arrived in a place i’d be calling Home for the next two months.
